Geoffrey Burns, a Sage Hill School 2010 graduate and a beloved member of our community, passed away on September 29, 2011, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Geoffrey was a student at Carnegie Mellon University with a dual major in Electrical/Computer Engineering and another in Physics. Geoffrey will always be remembered for his intellectual curiosity, generosity of spirit, sharp wit, and fearless individuality. Geoffrey was the embodiment of the Sage Hill School student.

At the request of the Burns family, The Geoffrey Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor Geoffrey and help his memory live on at Sage Hill School. Financial awards will be granted from this financial aid fund to students who embody the qualities central to Geoffrey’s character and who otherwise might not have the chance to attend Sage Hill School. The award committee will be comprised of faculty members who knew Geoffrey well and his multitude of interests. For 2012-2013, members will be Arlie Parker, Nate Miller and Lance Novotny joined by Geoffrey’s father, Richard Burns, and sister, Samantha Burns Brantley (’04) along with members of the Financial Aid Office.
